Hannah's Story

The charity is delighted to reveal the recent refurbishment to the family bathroom at Crossbasket House, thanks to generous funding from HSBC.
What was once a basic, functional space has now been transformed into a more modern, sleek looking bathroom for the families who stay at Crossbasket House. The project was funded by HSBC, thanks to Hannah Speirs, Corporate Account Manager - Agriculture.
Hannah kindly put Crossbasket House forward to receive a community fund grant from HSBC in recognition of the work the charity does to support families following her own experiences within Crossbasket House.

“No one can prepare you for all the tubes, machinery and the alarms or the phone calls during the night to say, ‘it’s not good news, please make your way up’ but having the support of Crossbasket House allowed us to be there for these touch and go moments and I will be genuinely forever grateful.”

Crossbasket House was there when Hannah was diagnosed with the rare foetal complication, Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS), resulting in the premature births of her twin sons, Kerr and Gibson.

“I had to undergo multiple surgeries, and as a result my boys, Kerr and Gibson, were born at 29 weeks at a tiny weight of two pounds and were in fact very poorly. Crossbasket House granted us on site accommodation, so we were seconds away from our boys while they were in intensive care.”

Hannah and her family stayed at Crossbasket House for three weeks while her sons received further care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
“Being able to give back to the house through the HSBC community funding process is a full circle moment and something I’m really proud of.”

The charity would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Hannah and HSBC for the support in helping families feel comfortable during their stay at Crossbasket House. It’s thanks to donations like this that the charity is able to help support the families of patients.
